I left school to start a family bakery in Vermont followed by award winning bakeries in Northern California and Utah. I am a retired anesthesiologist and practiced for 28 years. Before that, I was in family practice for five years. I went to the University of Notre Dame and graduated with a bachelors degree in pre-professional studies. I then went to Midwestern Medical School in Chicago and received my anesthesia training at the New Jersey School of Medicine and Dentistry. I also studied an extra year in pediatric anesthesia as a sub-speciality. I am also a massage therapist with specialty training in lymph drainage and abhyanga. I believe that being a coach, and mentor is the best way to teach children. I think that "hands on" training, or "on the job" training is the best way to learn. This is mostly true throughout our entire lives. Providing guidance, and answering questions rather than doing the work for them.

I graduated from the UConn with a B.S. in physics and a minor in mathematics. Because I have used calculus and linear algebra on a daily basis as a means of solving problems I have developed a fundamental understanding of mathematics; an understanding that only someone who has used thse mathematical tools extensively can achieve. Every child has his/her own learning style. I think it is important to first determine how each child best learns – either visual, auditory, or tactile. I can then tailor my instruction to the needs of each student. In general, I believe that people learn best by ‘doing’. A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching style is very simple and I believe it is effective. I have found that going through problems does not always help kids learn. I always try to tutor the basics and establish a plan for problem solving. The children need to know how to attach a problem not how to plug numbers into equations.
While attending the University of Massachusetts at Lowell I work to help other students that were having difficulty understanding the material presented. I obtained a bachelor of science in Civil Engineering, with a concentration in Structural Analysis. The course work gave me a very strong understanding of Mathematics, and Physics.
