English ESOL is one of my top subjects! For 3 years I have offered Chinese international students my services to help them gain a better understanding of American culture and the English language. I begin my tutoring session by determining the area of Spanish or English Grammar in which the student shows the most difficulty. I ask my student to present a copy of his or her last exam. I engage the student in Spanish conversation at the appropriate level, and I examine his or her reading and writing ability in the language. In contrast to what I have observed from many careless and indifferent teachers even at the college level, I am strict, but very patient about proper pronunciation, asking the student to repeat the text after me, until he or she pronounces each word correctly.
