A mix of hands on and hands off learning. Highly fond of the socratic method of teaching by guiding the pupil in the direction they need to go and letting them discover the solution organically. Direction and help are given directly when needed.
I have a degree in English an Communications which makes me proficient in understanding literature, and how it is received by the public. I was a writing tutor for three years in college tutoring people of many different backgrounds, many of which achieved success to a point of no longer needing to be tutored.

I have always had a passion for education, eagerly obtaining my Bachelor's and Master's degrees in education-related fields immediately out of high school. I have worked within school districts as a student teacher, substitute teacher and long-term/permanent substitute teacher for a combined total of over 3 years. My favorite part about teaching is working one on one with students and watching their skills and motivation progress. My philosophy is that education is power. Knowledge is our greatest defense and our greatest weapon. Through knowledge we gain experience, which enriches our competence, which protests the ills of society, which leads to a social justice, and most important, liberty. Learning is an activity that we should never stop, and if we do, we begin to die. I believe all children can learn given the appropriate avenues to success. Part of our job is to find those avenues and encourage our students to use them.
I have been substitute teaching for 5 years. Within that time I decided that teaching was for me and went on to get my degree and certificate to teach. I have completed several long-term substitute teaching positions, picking up where a teacher left off, often times unexpectedly. I have taught classes in the elementary, middle and high school.
