Teaching and School Counseling Services In One Place!

My style of education is to teach by modeling. Students need to see things in a step-by-step format with instructions, followed by an immediate example. I also provide sample argumentative essays for students who learn by seeing a complete model. My counseling style is to work with students, first by building a rapport and then using that as the foundation to get a feel for their college/career interests. I then look at their grades to help them build a custom transitional plan into early adulthood.
I have been a teacher for the last fifteen years. I teach social studies, but my specialization is teaching argumentative (college level) writing.I have done plenty of SAT prep and tutoring for students at the high school and college level. I am also a school counselor and can offer a vast array of services including FASFA, Naviance/Common Application and college/career counseling.

A Little Bit About Me...

I am a retired Connecticut public school educator with over 30 years of experience. I taught both English and mathematics, grades 7 through 12, for the first fourteen years of my career. I was an administrator for the remainder of my career, serving at the high school level, middle schoollevel, elementary level, and central office level. My last four years were as a system-wide language arts and reading curriculum supervisor in which I worked with students, parents, teachers and other administrators.
The key to good teaching is determining the skills of each student, individualizing an instructional program to improve on those skills, and monitoring progress to improve the student's knowledge base.

A Little Bit About Me...

As the "Summary of Experience" paragraph describes, I enjoy teaching people of all ages. I suppose my first love is working with young learners: seeing the "aha!" spark that shines when a child first absorbs a concept or masters a skill that is new, or one which has previously proved difficult. My teaching style could be described as "eclectic", in that I draw from the many resources available to find a "learning approach" that best matches the student's style and needs.
My primary activities during my professional career have been teaching and counseling. My experience covers clients across the lifespan: from infants in early care and education through grand- parents in post-secondary education and college courses. I have taught and tutored the basics: reading, writing, composition, comprehension, fluency, basic mathmatical functions, etc. I have also taught major required an ... read more

I enjoy teaching and working with all students- elementary to college-age. I have experience tutoring and mentoring children of all ages, including special-needs children. I gain great satisfaction from knowing I am helping students succeed. Knowledge is power.

Math can be fun, especially when applied to exciting applications. For my work at NASA and the MITRE Corporation I use concepts from Calculus I-II almost everyday. Inspiring students to become excited about math and science is one of my life-long goals. Step by step visual diagrams can be effective tools for describing complex ideas. From my experience as a teacher and student I have had great success creating simple graphics to accompany otherwise dense math equations for circuits, data structures and statistics. This teaching style coupled with a fresh knowledge of math material as a graduating senior make me confident that I can be an asset to your team this summer. I will be returning to my home in Connecticut May 18th and would welcome the opportunity to and discuss starting work at Advanced Learners!

I developed a patient style of simply allowing a student to set his own pace yet make sure he lives up to his own promises. Making lasting commetments allowes the student to take controle of his own improvement, yet allows me to see what he need direction in. In showing the student alternative practices, he will see the benifit in changing his ways for the better.
I am seeking a degree in Finance and Actuarial Sciences from the University of Connecticut. I achived a high level of proficiency in math from a very young age and finish Advanced Calc 3 and a half years ago. I have tutored a student for his entire second year of high school in all subjects with noticable GPA improvements.

I have taught with students from the age of 6 to the age of 29 in all subjects from math and reading, to philosophy and history. I am relaxed and zealous when teaching students. I have a known record at teaching my guitar students all the basic chords within 3 lessons. I also have raised the SAT scores with every students that I tutored for the SAT's. My record speaks for itself. I realize when a student is getting tired and wore down. I make sure to take small breaks and ask questions I know they will be interested in. This gives them trust in me and relaxation from the teaching process that can sometime become rigorous after awhile. It is my duty to improve my students grades and scores. My work in tutoring would not be fulfilling if I could not accomplish this goal.

A Little Bit About Me...

A diverse education at Wesleyan University has prepared me to tutor many high school subjects. I earned my BA at Wesleyan in Music but I almost double majored in Environmental Science. The high expectations of professors at Wesleyan pushed me to greatly improve my writing ability, with my music thesis earning me honors in music. Environmental sciences sharpened my science and mathematic ability. Extensive courses in music prepared me to tutor music students in any background or concentration.
I greatly enjoy finding a way to inspire a child to understand the problem at hand. Through from my experience in grade school and my observation of students that attend tough schools I've realized the monotonous class schedule and disciplinary philosophy of most schools deflates most student's desire to succeed. While I can relate to this rebellious reaction I also know that it is no ex ... read more

I was more of an instructor than a teacher. I was a day camp counselor at Solway House parent/child resort in Saugerties N.Y. I instructed kids how to swim, dive, play various sports and gave dancing lessons to the guests. As a high school student I tutored 7th and 8th graders in an after school community center. I was one of a few staff at the University of Connecticut to instruct graduates and staff in the use of the various electronic facilites available to them.
I feel children are very self-aware and are very vulnerable to positive and negative feedback. Therefore, no matter how little progress is made, praise them. If no progerss is made or if an issue needs to re-addressed, praise them..."That was great, but let's try it this way!" I feel that you are positive, smiling, and they believe that you believe in them, 9 out of 10 kids will follow you!

My educational career was full of challenges that have given me a broad basis of knowledge for tutoring. In high school, I earned the International Baccalaureate (IB) diploma. I subsequently earned a BS in Ceramic Engineering and an MBA in Operations Management. I started tutoring in high school when I managed a literacy program that paired high school students with students at a local elementary school. In college, I tutored math and physics through a formal program at the high school. After graduation, I continued to tutor, and in the past six years, I have tutored many students in all levels of mathematics (elemenatary, high school, and college).
