Recently I retired from teaching Title I classes. Much of my work has been helping lower elementary students improve their reading skills, often in a 1:1 setting. Besides working with young students, I have worked as high as 8th grade. Usually I have assisted with reading, but I have also helped with math, too. Helping young children learn to read has been the most rewarding thing I have done. It is a joy to watch them catch on to new learning. I like working 1:1 or in small groups. It is important build on a student's strengths, linking to what they know, and tying instruction to his or her interests.

Throughout the past 25 years, I have developed a deep love for learning and helping others. I can usually be found volunteering for local services, outdoors or looking into a new course at the nearby college, etc. I recently completed my first full year of teaching in Houston, TX. I taught 6th grade Social Studies and Language Arts in an inner city situation. I believe that I learned just as much as the children or more. My curriculum was on delivery, diversity and determination. During the last 3 years or so, I have tutored reading and math from grades 1st-6th and recently a small ESL 5th grade group. In addition, I tutored foreign languages in high school. I believe that the use of the modalities in teaching are quite beneficial and aid in smooth instruction. I have many and varied experiences in teaching music in the public schools and privately for over 30 years. I have my bachelors degree in music education-k-12 and I have almost finished my Master's degree in Music Education. My teaching experience includes classroom, vocal-choral, piano and band. During my years teaching in the public school system, I volunteered often for after-school activities organized in order to tutor the students in math, science, english, etc. I have also been a substitute teacher and have experience teaching several subjects which also included special education and emotional behavioral disabled children.
