The reason I chose to go to school for my teaching certificate is that I've always been passionate about learning. I think the best teachers are excited to constantly learn new things. My teaching style is hands-on as often as possible. Students remember very little information taught to them in a lecture format. I try to use manipulatives such as blocks, especially when teaching a subject like math or science. I am very patient and flexible and I love to smile. I believe every child can succeed and I will never give up on a student, no matter how much they may struggle academically.

I love teaching, organizing, planning... This past year, as a college professor, I worked with students ranging from 18 - 60 years old. I was a substitute teacher in Athens, GA for grades Kindergarden through 12th grade. I am patient, creative, dependable, and hard-working. Since completing my formal degree training I have worked in several capacities in the field of education. I taught inner-city young adults in Washington, D.C. in all GED subjects. I worked as a Guidance Counselor and Education Services Officer for the Army for eight years. In the past two years I have tutored under the auspices of Tacoma Community College in all GED subjects. Prior to my work with TCC I tutored in the Kid Reach program for three years.
I try to match my own teaching style with the learning style of the student with whom I am working, paying particular attention to language and vocabulary usage. I also strive to emulate my favorite math teacher's ability to think out loud in teaching any kind of problem solving task.

It is my experience that an instructor delivers more learning when a student has an interest in the subject. "Inspire rather than require," has far greater efficacy in delivering information. I tend to make it fun, interesting and encourage student participation and feedback. Reward, a basic human desire, engenders craving for learning. As each individual’s qualities are unique, I try to determine if one is a visual, auditory or tactile learner. Analogies often make good teaching aids. For example, if the subject were human circulatory systems, shining a light through a leaf reveals veins similar to our own and is more apt to draw the student into the subject.
