Through this experience I obtained a great understanding of various student learning styles and effective teaching methods from numerous teachers and numerous students. I then secured a position with one of the top 10 public accounting firms in the country. My strongest subject is algebra (commutative, homological, or abstract). My degree is in general mathematics so I experienced most forms of mathematics at a high college level. I began tutoring as a freshman in high school. Professionally, I have spent ten years in management in four different industries. I have been told that I explain things well.
1) Give the person you are turtoring an opportunity to tell you where they are having a problem. 2) While working through problems monitor the person you are tutoring to see if there are other problems. 3) Suggest changes. Never force them. There isn't one correct way. Make a suggestion on how to improve and explain why you are making the suggestion. 4) Do multiple versions of a similar problem. I have had several years experience of teaching throughout my schooling from college education, personal experience-being the oldest child/grandchild, daily experiences, and now being a parent of a young child. I've always known I would be a teacher. I loved my teachers growing up & I had a natural curiosity to know what it was like to help others.
