A Little Bit About Me...

I earned both of my degrees while working and caring for very young children. I feel this was possible because of my time management skills and determination to see a task through to completion. I have worked in the accounting or banking industry for over thirty years and truly love working with numbers. I fell in love with accounting in high school, finishing the semester project in about a month and a half and never looked back. I also feel that many of the concepts that accounting teaches are valuable in life even if accounting is not the career path chosen.

I do not have a particular teaching style because I don't believe that a single method works for everyone. Therefore, I operate from an Occam's Razor perspective -- whatever is the simplest solution is the best. I believe I am very empathetic and perceptive, which would enable me to determine what works best for each student.
Admittedly, I have no direct (structured) teaching experience. However, I have nearly five years of experience in the journalism field, and during that time I've mentored a number of fledgling college and high school journalists. As a graduate in retail management, I was driven to work in an area where communcations skills are a must. I graduated with a 3.0. I took speech skills, and was required to write several papers, often lengthy. In high school testing, I ranked in 90-96th percentile for English and Spelling. In college, I took a notoriously hard organic chemistry class. Once I sought out a tutor, I aced the class. Having been an administrative assistant and office manager, using correct grammar is a must.
As a mother of two young children, I want to see all children exceed. Children learn through positive reinforcement and by slowly building confidence, as his or her work improves. I am a conversational teacher. I try to always start with where the student is at and build from there. I like listening to students and relating to them at their level and letting them draw from me all that they can take and encourage their learning. I believe the best learning takes place when students are provided the proper atmosphere in which to learn.
