My teaching style would best be described as creative and flexible. I find it important to meet each student where they are at and figure out how to make the material make sense for that student. I find that many people are discouraged with English. The three biggest reasons are they have decided they can not understand the material they have been given to read; they have decided they can not write and they have concluded that what they have to say is not worth saying. My first career was as a Registered Professional Nurse (NYS licensure) for 25 years. During those years, I kept up my interest in various fields of math, such as Abstract Algebra, Differential equations, and topology. I try to involve as many senses as I can when illustrating new concepts and ideas. Math manipulatives are essential elements for early math comprehension. Whenever a game can help solidify ideas, it is utilized and learning is always fun. Children reach benchmarks, such as reading independently and math computation at different rates, so it's important to be consistent but very patient and encouraging.
