I love to share my knowledge and share my skills with others in a way to help them learn and grow. The way that I do this is by: 1) evaluate the child's skills, 2) acknowledge the child's skills and build his/her confidence as a stepping stone for future learning, 3) work to add to the current skills by adding to them. My greatest tutoring experience was teaching a mature adult man to read. I was able to improve his life by teaching him reading skills. I have always wanted to teach. When I was a child I would round up the kids in my neighborhood and make them do lessons that I created. I do remember they did not like that. I went to college and earned a BS in Biology always knowing that I would eventually teach the sciences. I was an excellent student and have always found pride in myself on my ability to communicate with clearity. I have one year of tutoring experience at the k-12 level. During high school, a manager at work asked if I would help tutor his Hispanic children. The tutoring lasted for about a year and we were all satisfied with the results. After graduating from Rutgers in 2006 with a BA in Psychology, I found a job as a residential counselor for the Devereux Foundation. Math and writing were top priorities and daily notes were taken to see how well each client progressed each week. Teaching is the most fulfilling experience I have ever had. As a supervisor and trainer in the military, it was my responsibility to train the new individuals that came into the job. There was a lot of studying material that I constantly had to sit down and go over with them. We made flashcards, took notes, made up quizzes, did verbal question and answers, etc. I actually used to tutor math in High School when I was in an advanced Calculus class and have helped many friends with their college math. As a grad student, I am writing lots of essays which has really helped me with my English skills. I have a lot of academic experience that I would love to utilize while tutoring.
