Hands-on/in the field
I have been a professional print/broadcast journalist for roughly 15 years. I am a perpetual student and am currently finishing my bachelors in communications online at the University of Tampa and have been accepted in their Master of Fine Arts program for Film Studies. An MFA is a terminal degree, so I will be qualified to teach on a collegiate level upon graduation. As reality often transcends policy, I currently take interns from a local SUNY institution and mentor young broadcasters, so as technology evolves, I will as well. My main body of work is primarily broadcast, but I regularly produce print articles for both online and print publications. From developing concepts for solid stories to completed final products, I am adept at producing both broadcast and print work.

I am a firm believer of the concept "know your audience", as each child may not learn in the same linear fashion. Children need to learn whether via spoken (lectures, slides,) or written word (powerpoint, research journals, quizzes,). I like to believe that the child does have will to learn and needs to find that niche of comfort in order to do so, whether informal group setting or sound strategic goal setting structure.

My teaching style is a combination of techniques I found successful during my educational studies. First, I believe the teacher has to be passionate and have a true love for what he or she is doing; this is passion, or lack thereof, is evident when interacting with a student. Second, patience is of upmost importance. In my experience, nothing inhibits learning as much as a rushed or pressured feeling when one is trying to learn. Finally, it is critical to find a way for the student to relate to the material in a way they understand.
