My love of teaching comes from a lifelong love of learning. After graduating with a 4.0 from Vestavia Hills High School in Birmingham, AL, I went to Auburn University to pursue an Industrial and Systems Engineering degree. After a few years of working as an Engineer with Alabama Power Company, I studied to earn my Masters of Business Administration from the University of Alabama, Birmingham.I believe that having a broad knowledge of all subjects is very important. I truly enjoy teaching math and enjoy watching the 'click' when a student begins to understand the concepts. I believe many students have been erroneously convinced that "they don't get math" or that math is too hard. After High School, I taught Sunday School at the small church I attended. I was co-teacher with an older gentleman, and the students were 12-15 years old. When my wife and I lived in Seymour (2002-2004), we often helped our nephews with their math homework or class Science projects. I loved explaining the basics, the steps required as we conducted the experiments and documented results in a logical, orderly progression of events. Our oldest nephew struggled with Algebra and geometric reasoning. When in Seymour, I could teach him one-on-one, and especially enjoyed using sketches to drive home geometrical concepts.

I break down subjects to the most basic level and build from there. This is the way all of my football coaches did things each year, they taught football stance at the beginning of August no matter the player's experience. Some students find this condescending but it usually progresses fast enough to reach their skill level without offending. I have always found that starting at the bottom prevents misunderstanding as you build toward the top.
