After a few years of working as an Engineer with Alabama Power Company, I studied to earn my Masters of Business Administration from the University of Alabama, Birmingham.I believe that having a broad knowledge of all subjects is very important. College grad with teaching/tutoring experience; kid-friendly

I prefer a hands-on approach, especially with science and math. I believe an education is more than memorizing definitions but understanding and being able to apply concepts broadly. I have found children grasp a concept better when they are allowed to explore concrete applications instead of studying abstract ideas. A typical tutoring session would include a review of classroom material, an experiment or observation applying that information, and homework formatted to the style his or her teacher's testing style. However, each child learns differently and adjustments will be made to more closely fit each individuals learning style and needs.
I have taught private violin lessons for ten years to students ranging in age from 4-26. At the University of Alabama, I taught the lab component to Intro into Biology for Non-majors under Dr. Tom Graham and histology under Dr. Jane Rasco. Thr ... read more

Being that I am relatively fresh out of college, I can relate to most students on a personal level. In college, I took many education courses and spent many hours in the classroom so I am current on new teaching styles. I can help average students excel and poor students gain confidence through learning. Many students are afraid of math before even beginning. I have helped many students that math is just math. There's nothing to be afraid of.
I have always known that I love math. I hold a BS in Mathematics and enjoy using my knowledge any way I can. Recently, I discovered that I also enjoy English. Particularly, proofreading. Even though I hold a degree only in mathematics, I have sufficient knowledge of spelling and grammatical skills.

A Little Bit About Me...

I love helping people achieve their goals. I try to find things that the kids enjoy and incorporate those things into my teaching style. I give the students plenty of time to figure out the answer and do not get frustrated with them if it takes them awhile. When the students get a correct answer, I praise them and try to boost their confidence.
As a recent college graduate, I understand the time and commitment it takes to achieve success in school. I earned a bachelor degree in chemistry with a minor in liberal arts. As a member of the chemistry honor society, I tutored students in chemistry during my college career.
