A Little Bit About Me...

I believe that each child learn differently, and as such, I have found the best way to teach is to cater to each child's individual learning style. In working one-on-one with students, I feel as though it is crucial to build a trusting relationship in which the child feels comfortable stating whether or not the teaching style I am using is working for them. I believe that comparing complex concepts to everyday, personal objects and situations is the most effective way to learn. Therefore, I am big on metaphors. Algebraic concepts and formulas can often be, I have found, analogous to much simpler ideas or images. Once the abstract is related to the mundane, we can break down the barrier to understanding that can be an automatic or habitual construction for many people.
