My intention in teaching science is multifaceted: I wish impart my love of Chemistry and Biology to a new generation of adults, enforce the idea that women can be strong in the sciences equally with men, and to take joy in the practice and teaching of chemical techniques and uses in both industry and environment. Organic Chemistry awakened a perspective to Inorganic Chemistry that helped me reflect on concepts of inorganic chemistry that had previously seemed abstract and difficult. Rather than being rooted in mathematics, organic chemistry took on physical shapes and emphasized the electrical forces between particles, making chemical relationships more tangible.
I earned my BA from Northwestern University in 2007 with a major in Philosophy. I started at Northwestern as a violin performance major at the School of Music, moving into Philosophy and later taking on public health. I ... read more

I have been performing since i was a child. Attended Julliard school of music, City colege of NY. Published two albums of my own and has recorded with a host of astist as a sideman. I am a multi-instrumentalist playing piano, bass(electric and acoustic), all percussions, composer and arranger. I have earned a bachelor of fine arts degree in music performance
I love teaching students of all ages. It is very satisfying to see their eyes light up when they realize they got it. One method i use is to teach the the music that they love and apply the theory and technique to it, and gradually introduce them to more challenging works. I can improvise at a moments notice to help get the lesson across, even if it means focusing on one task at a time. My goal is to make the learning experience as pleasant as possible.

I think one of the most important qualities for a teacher is to have a radiant enthusiasm for the subject you are teaching. After all, how can you get the students excited to learn, if you are not excited about the material you are teaching? You also need to be observant and able to identify how your students learn best and cater to their different learning styles. Finally and mostly importantly, a good teacher is patient and believes in their students' potentials and enthusiastically aids their students in reaching those potentials.
I have recently finished my Master's program in piano performance. I am an active teacher as well as a performer in the Boston area. I have a passion for knowledge, and have tutored high school and college students in the area of History, reading, and writing composition. I love teaching, and watching the student progress and excel!
My teaching style is more along the lines of the Montessori system. Given the freedom and much direction from the tutor, the student will often "discover" the essence of the lesson. In discovering the essence of the lesson, the student will take ownership. In taking ownership, the student in turn will develop pride, self worth, and a thirst for more knowledge and more successes.

I believe that musicians are all at different points on the same curve, and that every student learns in a unique way. I am versatile in my teaching methods and flexible with the pace of students. I believe in instilling the correct skills and knowledge trumps over a period of time instead of cramming in new information at a rapid pace. I feel it is important to harbor a love of music most importantly and that music should be fun and educational.
As a musician, I have taught two private students in Electric Bass, taught a master class for a high school level jazz combo, conducted a high school band for a piece I composed and arranged, and played gigs with talented musicians in the Dartmouth area. I was a hockey coach for beginners for 6 years where I honed my skills as an instructor that make me very adept at teaching. I know many practice techniques and exercises for all leve ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

While at Vassar during my senior year, I was employed by the music department as the music history intern. In this position, I was expected to instruct students enrolled in the current music history course once a week in new material as dictated by the professor. In order to prepare for this, I met with the professor prior, but often I was given freedom to design the lesson on my own. I also completed a correlate sequence in medieval/Renaissance studies, and took an array of history, art history, religion, gender studies, and English classes in addition to my required music courses. Being able to write well was crucial to succeeding in these, and I was able to develop confidence and aptitude in writing recognized by my professors.
I thoroughly enjoy working one-on-one with students so that we can start a dialogue of questions and suggestions that is beneficial to the student's unde ... read more
