I love to teach!

I am a firm believer in relating education to the real world. This philosophy transcends into my teaching style. I make it a mission to ensure my students understand what they're learning rather than simply memorizing it to pass a test. I want my students to not only learn the subject matter but develop a fundamental understanding of what it takes to succeed in school, college, and the real world. As a recent grad, there are so many lessons I have learned throughout my academic and early professional career that I wished someone had taught me. I will do my best to make sure my students learn those lessons well in advance of actually needing them. All in all, I will help my students develop a comprehensive understanding of the subject matter.

My comments on tutoring Chess : I love to play chess.

Laid back, approachable with a sense of humor.
I received my B.A. in humanities with a minor in Spanish from Buffalo State College in 2009. I studied English, Philosophy and Spanish mostly. I have a lot of experience in writing, critical analysis of literature and basic Spanish. I also hold a TESOL certification from Oxford Seminars. A TESOL certification is an international certification which certifies you to teach English as a second or other language. I have over a year in experience teaching ESL both here in the United States and in South America. I believe I have a good understanding of the technicalities of the English Language and would be ideal for a student struggling with grammar and writing.

More About This Tutor...

The single most important thing about being a teacher or mentor is to be respectful, socially aware, and sensitive. Okay, that's three things, but they kind of go together. The second most important thing about being a mentor is to create understanding about the underlying principle of whatever it is he or she is learning about. Once you understand the underlying principle, the "how to" stuff becomes a *lot* easier to understand and remember. On the other hand, a person who's trying to learn the "how to" stuff without understanding the underlying principles is likely to forget key things, to be tripped up when an unexpected question arises, and to get into other trouble.
I've always been driven to help others understand subjects on a deep level. When I was in high school, I taught my brother basic algebra. (He was ten years old at the time.) As the editor of a high IQ society's ... read more

As a UB graduate, I was very driven to learn the most I could in the areas of humanities and social sciences. I have earned two bachelor degrees, BA in History and BA in Political Science. With history, I wrote many essays that required me to decipher large amounts of kryptic writing aging back from thousands of millenia ago to present day. In Political Science I have learned how to collect data, use deductive logic, and apply statistics in any situation on will. During the last year I have taught special education students at various schools at all grade level from k-12. Reading and writing were the main focus areas of all of my teaching.
I love trying to help children gain knowledge. I believe anyone is capable of learning something new no matter how old they are and that patience and the use of deductive knowledge are they key's to having someone develop their knowledge. My meth ... read more

I would say that the greatest personal attribute that the Lord has given me when it comes to teaching is patience. I allow the student the time that it takes them in order for them to "get it" without pressuring them. I also like to make the material as simple as possible by teaching in a manner where I like to emphasize understanding as opposed to just being able to do it. And typically I find the best way to offer enlightenment to the student is to take whatever concept it is that I am trying to convey to them and draw an analogy to something basic that they do understand to help bridge the gap to the new concept (the same thing that the Lord Jesus Christ did - John 3:12).
I have been tutoring and teaching since I entered college. I have helped multiple friends of mine through difficult classes that they needed for their degree. I have held many study groups for difficult up ... read more

My teaching style is one that allows the students to ask any pertinent question about the subject at hand. By allowing the students to do this, it allows me to see what might be giving them a hard time with the learning. Thus, I would be able to ask pertinent questions, that will allow me to show different ways around the troublesome areas, while giving the students a new way to learn the necessary material.
When working towards my Bachelor's I was able to achieve a dual BS in Accounting and Business Management. After working a few years, I decided to go into teaching. While doing this, I was able to assimilate my real life working experience, into the classroom. I have since obtained a second certification in Special Education. This was after obtaining my Master's in 2007. I believe the combination of these teaching areas, would allow me to help those students, who need dif ... read more

More About This Tutor...

I have been a teacher and tutor for over 15 years, specifically in private schools. The first student I tutored (as an elementary student) has graduated from dental school and has his own practice! My background in science and math, as well as human psychology, enables me not only to teach the curriculum, but also to understand those academic areas which are common roadblocks to many students. I am motivated to bring knowledge, model tenacity and give hope to my students. It is a thrill to help a student who is struggling with a subject and see him/her become comfortable and begin to enjoy the academic journey.
I have tutored students both with and without learning disabilities. In my 15 years as a teacher in elementary and high school, and as a tutor, I have covered math through algebra and geometry, biology, geography/history, chemistry and physics. I am capable of tutoring c ... read more
