A Little Bit About Me...

I went through a rigorous program in English Composition where I received my MA. Prior to that, I had several years of teaching experience as both a high school/middle school English and Social Studies. Later I taught 4 years of College English. Then I spent a couple of more years teaching high school English, in addition to spending one year tutoring students in SAT/Regents instruction. My particular passion is helping students generate, organize, develop, revise and edit their writing.
I believe in developing a rapport with students, treating them as equals in the learning process. I am presently working on a masters for elementary and special education. I have earned a bachelor degree in Sociology. I am currently teaching in the Fairview school district. I work as a resource room teacher for third grade and kindergarten. My primary focus is language arts, reading and math. After earning my Bachelor degree in English Education at Montclair State University, I was able to apply what I had learned from observing and student teaching in the classrooms of Old Bridge High School. The students that I worked with and mentored ranged from those enrolled in the Honors programs to those assigned to lower level courses, requiring in-class support. In all my years of teaching, I came to the realization that every child is different . When it comes to teaching, I like to learn a little about the child first. Then once I know everything I need to know, I go by what interests the child and I use that to teach them . Although sometimes it is not as simple, I do what ever it is that I have to do to ensure that the child is learning .
I've been working with children since the day I got my first job. I don't know if it is the fact that I am the oldest of 6, or if it is just in my blood to teach . My first job was at a very small day care that consisted of about 14 kids, ages 1 to 12 . I helped the older children with their homework and with the younger children, our day consisted of fun learning games . I also worked at Unlimited Tutoring for 3 years, there I helped tutor children ages 6 to 15 in Math, Reading, English, and History.
