My comments on tutoring Elementary Math : Math is a language all of its own.... It comes down to relating the topic with something the student knows and understands. What makes math fun for me is "MATH IS WHAT IT IS" meaning there are no misguided rules during the Elemetary math years.

I like to help students discover the solutions and answers on their own. I am here to help guide them in the right direction not to provide the answer.
I spent the last several years preparing to become a teacher and have enjoyed every bit of it. I have spent time in the classroom, varying from 4th grade and up not only in math classes, which I will be teaching, but others as well. Although it was not necessary to get a Minor in Education to become a teacher, I decided that it would be in my best interest to gain as much knowledge on different teaching styles and approaches to developing my own classroom environment. My comments on tutoring Elementary Math : I taught 1st grade in OKCPS. I piloted the Every Day Math program for my school. I am very experienced with Every Day Math.

I specialize in the foundational reading skills, phonological awareness, phonics, and fluency, with vocabulary and comprehension mixed in. Most children who aren't comprehending what they are reading have holes somewhere in there foundational reading skills. I work diligently to fill in these holes to create a solid reading foundation.

I began tutoring at a program called Tuesday Tutors which provides free-of-charge tutoring to all students Junior High level and above (although we often helped out Elementary students who stopped by).
