ADD/ADHD is one of my top subjects!

I truly enjoy working with students of all ages. It doesn't matter what they don't know because I believe anyone can be taught anything, at least as long as you have the right teacher and materials at your disposal. I believe students are like little sponges. They're taking in everything around them. Obviously, if you fill their heads with garbage, they will learn garbage. However, if you fill their heads with quality information, you explain it in a way that they understand, and you make it fun for them to learn, then they will learn everything you're trying to teach. There are thousands of educators, but only a few real teachers who can get a message across in such a way that the student doesn't just do the work, they UNDERSTAND what they're doing and why. As far as I'm concerned, if a student doesn't learn something, it's not because he didn't try. It's because I failed to teach him i ... read more

I hear and I forget. I see and I remember.I do and I get it.

I believe that implementing the right tools, along with clearly stating what the student needs to learn, along with discussion, will ensure student success.Using multisensory resources, creatively using the newly formed knowledge, along with pre-testing will foster memory and recall.
The experience I have gained while studying Education and Psychology, along with administrating exams for Wonderlic Scholoastic Testing and tutoring has enabled me to learn through understanding, hard work and dedication. I have learned through extensive courses in Psychology on how we learn, education courses that break learning down, and working with children and adolescence for over ten years with tutoring and patience, that with the proper tools and guidance, anything can be achieved.

Diverse background

Each individual has a distinct learning style which must be recognized in order to promote and facilitate better learning and achievement, it is essential that a teaching style in the format of tutoring match the students learning style.
Have experience in all subjects listed as I have completed these courses myself; as a communications major I've worked in public relations and media though I have extensive freelance writing experience. Prior career experience includes non profit and healthcare related management as well as other positions which I believe have been important in obtaining the abilities needed to communicate successfully in many ways; this will directly assist me in tutoring though this is a new area for me outside of my home.

A Little Bit About Me...

I believe all children can learn, particularly if we match our instructional style to the learning style and needs of the student(s). As the mother of a special needs child, I constantly look to see what other teachers have perhaps missed in their dealings with a classroom full of students. My references, from supervisors and parents alike, evidence the passion I display toward struggling students. I enjoy collaborating between the home and the school to provide the child with the best education we collective can provide.
I taught elementary special education for two years with the Lima, Ohio, public schools. I taught high school Spanish and Remedial Reading for two years with the Pike Delta York schools in NW Ohio. I taught English as a Second Language to K-8 migrant children for two summers in Wauseon, Ohio. For ten years, I taught virtually all subjects to K-12 Home/Hospital bou ... read more

I have taught to all ages in many different settings and subjects. I find one on one tutoring to be the most rewarding and effective. I would not only teach students to create a positive learning environment but work to build study and learning habits to nurture their knowledge and critical thinking skills in a developmentally appropriate manner for each age group and skill level.
I have my Florida state teachers certification a strong letters of recommendation from my previous principals and have years of experience teaching k-12 students. A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching style consists of patience and determination. I believe that every child can learn, just at different paces. It would be my job as a tutor to figure out what learning style my student has so that I can capitalize their learning experience while being tutored.
On a walk-in basis, I have acted as a mentor and tutor to inner city youth in Columbus, OH at the Boys and Girls' Club Milo Grogan Unit. I truly feel I am a natural educator at heart and have strong communication skills with children at all ages and levels. I have a strong education of learning styles and I will always adapt my approach to each individual child. I am very open in listening to concerns from both children and their parents. There are many reasons why a child might have a problem understanding and my strong psychological skills can help me see the approach I need to take and even help educate parents an what certain problems might be. I have a very heavy belief in trust in everyone involved. I do favor in general a constructivist approach to leaning where children build on previous knowledge and discover ways to understand the problems in front of them.
