My comments on tutoring English ESOL : I tutored ESL students for 3 years at an academy and privately. I am currently enrolled in a class to receive a TEFL/TESOL certification.

A student cannot learn unless he is comfortable and confident. My first priority before teaching is to make sure the student is relaxed and believes he can accomplish the goal. I also like to get to know my student to know what kind of learner he is and what he likes. My teaching style is "delight directed" whenever possible.
In 2001, I received my certification in Elementary Education from CCSU. I then substitute taught for the town of West Hartford for 2 years while I got married and had my son. He had a lot of health problems so the decision was made for me to stay home with him. When it came to Kindergarten he still had many health issues so we thought it was best to keep him home and I began to Homeschool him. Every child has his/her own learning style. I think it is important to first determine how each child best learns – either visual, auditory, or tactile. I can then tailor my instruction to the needs of each student. In general, I believe that people learn best by ‘doing’. I believe that students should be able to ask questions or discuss relevant experiences during lessons – this kind of dialogue makes the instruction memorable and meaningful to students.
