A Little Bit About Me...

I understand that math can sometimes be a very ambiguous subject for many people. For instance, a lot of times it just looks like things can magically happen without a very good underlying explanation, and to overcome that I try to really break things down and pull things apart, sometimes with real life examples, physical examples and even just showing the student exactly where the "magic" part is coming from. I use a variety of teaching styles to involve students in the learning process: in traditional and computer-mediated classroom settings, and over the internet. The traditional teaching style (face-to-face interaction) was blended with technology (such as online discussions and assignments) for a boosted learning environment. I have been tutoring and teaching since I entered college. I have helped multiple friends of mine through difficult classes that they needed for their degree. I have held many study groups for difficult upper level math classes that my peers struggled with. I was a teacher assistant for Calculus 1 where I held the largest study group on all of campus. During my studies at SUNY Buffalo I tutored in Regents Math which I also took when I was in high school. In Virginia Tech I was a Graduate Research Assistant. I ran Aerospace Engineering labs, assigning work to undergraduate students which I graded. I was available for multiple hours per week assisting students in their homework and lab reports. Since then I have been a math tutor in calculus. Engineering requires a solid understanding of math from the basics such as algebra and geometry to more difficult calculus and linear algebra.
