I have 25 years experience in teaching from grades 6 through college; public schools; private schools; community college. My masters degree is in history. I have written one government text, several chapters of high school history texts, and economics teacher materials while working for Glencoe/ McGraw-Hill publishing. I have an Ohio professional certificate, still up to date. I am retired, but still writing for a web site.
I believe that each student learns in his or her unique way. Creativity in teaching style is necessary to find out how best to teach. I have developed many different strategies, approaches.

I love tutoring and mentoring kids, period. It's spiriturally rewarding to me as an adult to have a part in a child's development. I believe every child is special. There's is no doubt in my mind that if a tutor approach is based on patience, quality time and empathy, he or she will be successful and effective. Currently I am the three to five year old Sunday school teacher for my church. I enjoy this age group because they surprise me every time with their knowledge and insight. They are an enthusiastic group who want to learn and share what they know. In the past I worked as a high school history teacher, I tutored another student in US History in high school, and in 7th grade I tutored elementary school students in reading and vocabulary.

I love to be in the classroom. I love the process of learning. It is important to understand that children learn at different paces and in different ways. After college I immediately traveled to France on a very generous scholarship from Rotary Foundation. This permitted me to live and study at a very old and prestigious university in Poitiers, France. I enjoy teaching very much. I think a strength trying to use a student's active content or prior knowledge to connect to material. My attempts are always to make the student feel empowered by the education process. If you can connect to way what they are into, either cartoons, hip-hop, popular culture, with conservative humor, then sometimes you can gain their understanding much quicker.
