I have a bachelor's degree in English from Tulane University, and I've also started my teacher certification. While I was in college, I worked in three local charter schools tutoring kids in grades 1-8 in reading, as well as helping them with language arts, math, social studies, and writing skills as needed. I got to take classes on early childhood education in subjects such as children's literacy and classroom management, and I even wrote my own children's book! I was also part of a program that helped high schoolers of all writing levels and styles produce great essays. Elementary Phonics is one of my top subjects!

My teaching styles vary depending on the student. I had one student who was an adult, moving to Ecuador for 2 years to work. I taught him the basics using methods such as flash cards, workbooks, and homework assignments. We met 3x a week for 3 months. In college I taught a Spanish course for a Christian Highschool near my university. This was rather different since the students were in their early teens. My method with them was 'FUN.' I used pop culture and things that interested them to help them learn. For example: I had them bring in a picture of their favorite celebrity and they had to describe the colors, clothing, and characteristics of that celebrity in Spanish. It was a success.

I was a corporate trainer for 3 years, followed by 12 years serving as a software instructor. Prior to and throughout this time, I also taught Sunday school and Vacation Bible school, teaching everyone from 2 year olds to adults. I spent one summer as a reading tutor, and many of my software classes have been 1-on-1 tutoring sessions. I have volunteered as an SOL coach and in Head Start classrooms.
