My comments on tutoring Algebra : "Excellent instruction" - Stacy, Lexington, KY on 2/29/12 My daughter has always struggled with math in general. Algebra became overwhelming for her. Devin has been SO helpful. He takes time to explain concepts so that she can more easily understand. He is very patient and very knowledgeable. He even works ahead with her using her textbook so that she is prepared in advance for her next class concept. She made an A on her first test after tutoring with Devin. We couldn't be more happy with choosing Devin to tutor our daughter in Algebra I. Thank you Devin!!

As a graduate of a small liberal arts college, I have spent many hours volunteering to help tutor my classmates in both biology and the humanities. I hold a bachelor's degree in biology. I have learned extensive grammatical skills through my school's intensive general studies program. It is also important to make sure that what they know is correct and that they are not confused or misunderstanding the material. After which, getting to know the individual style of learning for each student will insure that time is used efficiently and that the student is understanding and retaining the material being taught. I earned a well rounded education from Western Kentucky University with a strong emphasis in math / Engineering. Since College I have pursued the Surveying field. I have recently obtained the status of Professional Land Surveyor with the State of Kentucky. I have taught young graduates surveying practices in relation to the Engineering field while in management positions. I would be very excited about teaching children.
I like to ask questions and get the student involved. I like to get the student engaged as much as possible. I would like to observe the method in which the student obtains the most information and expound on that variable, triggering many senses for better memorization. I believe each student can learn and it’s my responsibility to find how each one learns best. So much of it is about instilling confidence in the student that he or she is intelligent and capable of mastering the subject. I have been very successful at this and have often had short tutoring assignments: once we discover what is keeping a student from grasping the subject, fixing it is easy and then the student can proceed on their own with or without the help of a parent.
