My comments on tutoring American History : My teacher training focused on U.S./American History. I have tutored middle school students, Regents students and AP students in U.S. History.

This is my fourth year tutoring middle and high school students in History and Government. I also have professional classroom teaching experience and volunteer elementary school teaching experience. My students, primarily Global History, World History and European History students, have raised their class grades, passed the Regents exam by many points and earned high scores on the AP. I specialize in both content acquisition and essay writing skills. Some students have worked with me for half a year or more, others for a month or two before cumulative exams.

I have a Bachelor of Science in Biology and a minor in Chemistry. I love being able to help students feel comfortable with the material they are studying. I have tutored numerous times throughout college, and would like to get back into tutoring students because I find it to be rewarding. As a student who went from living in Germany and being taught that there are many ways of getting the right answer, to moving to America where everything is taught in one way, I have learned to incorporate my tutoring skills to the need of each individual student. Teaching and School Counseling Services In One Place!

My style of education is to teach by modeling. Students need to see things in a step-by-step format with instructions, followed by an immediate example. I also provide sample argumentative essays for students who learn by seeing a complete model. My counseling style is to work with students, first by building a rapport and then using that as the foundation to get a feel for their college/career interests. I then look at their grades to help them build a custom transitional plan into early adulthood.
I have been a teacher for the last fifteen years. My comments on tutoring American History : Teach American History towards taking the American History Regents Exam

I was employed by the Lakeland Central School District as a substitute Teacher Aide and later in a full time capacity. I worked for the OASIS Program and later at the Alternative High School. After completing my Bachelor's Degree at Concordia College, I applied for and was accepted into the New York City Teaching Fellows Program. I taught Special Education at a high needs urban high school in the Bronx. This was a challenging and rewarding experience. Many of my students continued on to post secondary schools. I am currently finishing my Master's degree program at City College of New York, expected graduation is May 2013.
