The Student Comes First

I allow my teaching style to mold itself to each individual student, finding methods of communicating the information that best suit the learning style of my student. I favor a holistic approach to learning, believing that education should be of the whole person. If a student learns how a skill in his tutoring session can be applied in real life, then his or her perception of the subject may fundamentally improve.
I am a graduate of Tennessee Temple University, with experience tutoring at Tennessee Temple University, as well as University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, in various topics, including biodiversity, mathematics (up to pre-calculus), history, and American Sign Language. I continue to study in my personal time as many topics as possible, with the belief that a good tutor is firstly a good student.

Science is one of my top subjects! I have 5 years experience of teaching middle school science.

I graduated from the University of West Florida in Pensacola with a Bachelors in Science in Marine Biology. I have worked as a fisheries biologist for four years before I became a teacher. I went through an intense alternative certification program that allowed me to learn two years of education into a six month period. I taught 8th grade science in Desoto County for five years. After moving to the Orange Park area, I began teaching Biology and Marine Science at a Clay County high school. This is where I am currently teaching and have been for almost three years.

I have helped many family friends with school through out my years of school. I love to teach, I am actually thinking about going back to school to teach. I enjoy helping people find new ways to understand things. I have tutored about 10-15 people, mostly elementary school but I am willing to teach any age. I have a very open schedule and would love to help out anyone I can!
Whatever works for the individual, I can read, make charts, make songs. Anything that will help my student learn is worth it.

ALL STUDENTS WELCOME!

Whenever I can, I like to be very hands-on in my teaching my students. For example, once I was teaching my class about trees. I had them go outside and collect samples of bark which had fallen on the ground. Then we created a gigantic mural in my classroom and glued the pieces of bark to a tree we had drawn.
I have been a self-employed Tutor since April, 2006. Special needs and home schooled students are welcomed. Nothing makes me happier than when I see the smiles on the faces of my students when they succeed rather than fail. I assist all students in skill building and creating a life-long love of learning. I provide on-going feedback to parents and am happy to work with the teachers of my students.

A Little Bit About Me...

I believe that an instructor’s primary role is to create an environment that encourages a real desire to learn by presenting the subject matter in a way that is interesting to the student and by striving to make it make it relevant to their lives. It is my role as an instructor to take abstract concepts and breathe life into them and make them real to the student. I think that it is important to understand and be constantly aware that different people learn in different ways. Because of this, I feel that it is important that an instructor uses a wide range of teaching methods in order to give each student the best opportunity to learn and understand the material.
I have earned both a MA and a BS in Urban and Regional Studies from Minnesota State University. I spent 15 years working in local government management. Throughout my career, I have taken opportunities to hire and mentor ... read more

I have a science degree from a prestgious university and have spent the last 30 years with a major pharmaceutical company in the sales and marketing arena. A key element of many of my assignments was to conduct training programs for sales representatives involving the teaching of detailed science and medical concepts. These training programs involved in depth understanding of various physiological systems and how specific diseases impact health short and long term.
Although most of my training experience is with young adults, I believe my strong scientific background can be a valuable asset in teaching younger children and teens. The vast majority of my trainees successfully completed their training programs which typically lasted 8-10 weeks. I possess an easy going personality and like to make learning fun for the student. I have excellent interpersonal people skills. I have a great passion for children and a sincere desire to help them learn. I was allowed the privilege to teach elementary, middle ,and high school as a substitute teacher on an as needed basis in the previous school year.
