A Little Bit About Me...

I am what you might call a camp kid. I grew up spending summers in the mountains, camping and hiking and when I grew older, working. The foundation of my leadership experience was built in the forrest. For six summers I worked as an outdoor educator and adventure guide, leading groups of students through week long trips into the natural world. I believe in experience as the greatest teacher. Students are empowered when they learn from their experience and begin to flourish in themselves. At university, my enthusiasm for the outdoors lead me to the arts. I took a particular interest in poetry and short stories and immersed myself in literary life at UCSD. I was often asked to facilitate writing workshops and discussion groups, and in doing so I've found tutoring to come quite naturally to me.

I am currently an instructional aide in a special needs classroom and work with elementary and middle school students. I have also had experience in school, both middle school and high school, as a tutor. The subjects that I have the most experience with are history, social sciences and English ranging elementary through college levels. I have a degree in History and a lot of experience and knowledge of various time periods and cultures. I am also proficient in math from basic arithmetic skills through Algebra II.
