A Little Bit About Me...

For the past two years, I have been teaching journal-writing and college classes at the Louisville Comprehensive Care MS Center. Prior to that, I have tutored students ages 7-40 in a various set of topics, primarily math and business subjects.
My preferred style of teaching is student-lead. I believe in the Socratic method, but appreciate following a curriculum, as well. I volunteer at a Montessori school and I know that getting learners of all ages interested and excited about a topic is the key to retention.

I have formal education experience as a science teacher in both the middle school setting (2 years), and the high school setting (1 year). I also have 3 years of informal education experience that will help me connect with students. I worked as a science educator for three years at the Louisville Science Center, creating labs and demos on every science subject. I have been a playwright for the last ten years, which is why I chose to get my BA in writing. Being involved in extensive reading and writing programs in and out of school has given me a deep appreciation for words. Over the course of my education, I was fortunate enough to tutor several young students struggling with reading and writing, as well as weekly creative writing workshops with elementary students.
The satisfaction that comes from working with a student, one on one, who is struggling, and seeing them change from angry and insecure to confident and proud is immense.
