My philosophy of education is a student centered one. I strongly relate to the adage of serving as the “guide on the side” rather than the “sage on the stage.” I believe in focusing on individual needs, involving and motivating the students in the process of their learning. Their individual differences need to be recognized, respected, and even celebrated. I believe that all students have strengths, and that it is the goal of the teacher to assist them to identify and build upon these. To the world, a teacher might be just one person, but to one person a teacher just might be the world.
After earning a Bachelor’s Degree in English, I married and worked at support jobs while helping to raise our two children. I have recently attained a Bachelor's Degree in Interdisciplinary Studies from Mississippi State University. The reason I chose this degree was that it gave me an opportunity to learn all aspects of a human being. My first concentration was science. This gave me an understanding on how the body is developed. The next concentration was social work. This would help me gain knowledge on how to deal with families, and education, so I could teach.
I believe all children have the ability to learn. I strive to accommodate each child's unique learning style and cherish the accomplishments in learning new things. I like to create imagination, yet keep children focused on and on task.
