Algebra II is one of my top subjects! I have seen a student who came to me in the last two weeks of the school year with a grade of D in Algebra II raise his grade by getting a B+ on the final exam after intensive tutoring.

I have done private tutoring of high school students in math from pre-algebra to calculus and in other subjects. I have also home schooled adopted daughters from lower grades to high school level, including teaching English as a second language. In graduate school I was a teaching assistant in an electric machinery laboratory for non-electrical engineering majors. My own experience with standardized tests includes having taken the ACT in 1971 with scores ranging from 22 (76th percentile) in English to 31 (97th percentile) in math with a composite of 27 (93rd percentile) and having passed the GRE in 1975. Other previous experience includes 34 years experience as a communication system engineer. My comments on tutoring Algebra II : I don't know what separates Algebra I from II, from III. All I know is that I'm a proficient, knowledgeable teacher. With me, you'll learn.

Any
To teach, one needs three skills: the ability to relate to a student, the skills necessary to convey leaning, and subject knowledge. I'm proficient in these skills. I have a degree in chemistry with a minor in math. Taught all the maths in night school to students seeking associate degrees. And most importantly, I use math all the time in my business as a wealth manager having designed screens and a rating system all supported by algebra.

Experienced Tutor, Degree in Math!

Practice-Theory-Practice. I try to stay very focused on doing examples and practice problems. Some theory is necessary for a deep understanding, but it has to come at the right time. The student first needs some practice or at least an attempt to appreciate the process involved in solving a problem. Then I try and bring to light any issues and cover some theory. Then we do more practice.
I helped many students who had previously given up hope to pass the CLAST exam and I taught the math portion of an SAT prep course through FGCU's CAA. More About This Tutor...

My old next door neighbors have two children. One is a boy in elementary and one is a girl in middle school. I tutored the boy in reading and writing. He was able to read his first book on his own after a few weeks with me. I had to tutor the girl in math. she was taking algebra and was having a tough time with it. In two weeks of many meetings, she was able to pass her final exam. No matter what grade I was in, I always enjoyed going down to the ESE room and helping the special kids. I did what ever I could to help.

Let's get you an A!

I began tutoring math, composition, and biology in college for 3 years and loved it! I graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Biology with and minor in math. After college I continued tutoring middle school and high school students in math and biology in both a one-on-one and small group setting. I have been tutoring now for over 4 years and genuinely enjoy helping students realize their potential and succeed!
I find it partucularly useful to take time to get to know the student's interests so that I can relate each subject to things that the student is familiar with. Making this connection between a difficult concept and the student's personal areas of interest helps the student feel comfortable with the subject and therefore more confident thinking through each question presented. Once confidence is established, it becomes easier for students to develop an understanding of the sub ... read more

I remember thinking years ago: "What will I ever use this for?" In tutoring my children, sometimes their friends, in addition to training my employees, I strive to create excitement by showing a need and an application for new information. I tend to retain information if I have a use for the knowledge, and believe others feel the same. Ignorance is simply the lack of information, and can be corrected with the proper presentation and guidance. The challenging and most rewarding is to find the method that "clicks" with the student, and seeing the light of realization in their eyes.
Growing up the son of an English teacher, and a high school principal, education was obviously paramount in the home environment. I graduated from Indiana University with Business Degree, most of my work experience was in training and development of new employees, with a strong emphasis on demonstration, e ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I believe the best way to teach is to relate the subject to the children. A child may not understand fractions but if you ask them to divide up a candy bar, they know how many pieces they want to split it in to and how many they want. I believe that listening is the key to teaching. A good teacher and a good listener is the difference between a child attending school and a child excelling in school.
While living in Japan, I taught English to the Japanese nationals and was a teacher's aide in the Department of Defense Dependent's Schools in the special needs department. I worked directly with middle school children who had ADD, ADHD as well as other physical handicaps including Cerebral Palsy. I have 3 children that I have had to help with their homework and projects throughout the years. I enjoy working with children and believe education is the key to developing responsible ... read more

I can show many ways to solve a problem, depending on the students way of processing information. I make learning fun and can adapt easily to each individual students learning style. Having the student finally understand new concepts is the most rewarding part of the process. I teach because I enjoy it, not because I need the money.
