A Little Bit About Me...

I would say my teaching style is very thorough and repetitive. Repetition is what truly sticks information into student’s minds, despite its annoying tendencies. My middle school class would frequently complain that we had already covered something; but their test scores showed that it paid off in the long run! I am a kinesthetic learner and understand how everyone has different learning styles so I incorporate all styles when teaching a lesson. I include reading, verbal, visual and hands on learning when possible. When learning or teaching math I feel the more problems you can do the better.
After receiving my college education I taught my own visual art curriculum in Western Illinois for two years. Here I worked with Elementary students and High School Students. I am a laid back person who is easy to talk to and love to break the complicated down into the easy to grasp. I am a firm believer that every teaching relationship is an opportunity for all involved to learn (and that includes the instructor!). My goal is to teach others how to become effective communicators not only in the realm of the classroom, but in everyday life as well. I enjoy helping my students learn skills that can be applied to every subject in school and in life. I have many experiences and a varied background. I have two Masters in English and Secondary Education. My bachelor degrees are in English and Spanish. While a high school student, I was an exchange student in Mexico. I also spent five years in Japan teaching English in a public school and at a language school. Before that I taught writing courses to college students. I have lots of experience teaching writing, grammar, and literature. I am able to teach any level.
