I love working with all ages and generally prefer English as a Second Language students, but I enjoy working with everyone. My teaching style is very student centered as I try to figure out what a learner likes to learn and cater the instruction to them so it stays fun and educational. I will be a graduate of the University of Wisconsin Superior in just a few short weeks with my degree in English and Communications. As a teacher I have always desired to teach in a way that I know I am communicating with my students. My teaching style includes making eye contact with my students to make sure they are with me. If I sense that their eyes have "glazed over," it is time for a change of pace. I might interject some humor or tell a short story to give them a break. I know that learning is hard work. I would also use games and projects to give them a change of pace. Sometimes I would assign a lesson for them to teach. Taking classes on field trips as an occasional alternative to classroom teaching is another tool I use, giving my students a passive learning experience. I strive to make the learning experience enjoyable. As a high school student, I began teaching Sunday School and continued throughout my college years. Graduating from Concordia College in Moorhead with a degree in accounting, and a strong background of math and businesses courses has given me an excellent background in math. I also took various english and writing composition classes which has provided me with excellent communication skills. I will ask a student some questions to find out what they know about the subject. I listen carefully for clues to potential obstacles the student is facing. How the student feels about the subject is affected by perception of difficulty and personal ability, and by perception of importance.
