A Little Bit About Me...

I believe that people learn in different fashions. For example, I feel that some concepts may be better explained with tangible objects while other concepts are learned better when questioned and discussed. By exploring the different ways of learning we can find what works best for that individual and use that method as a tool for their understanding. I feel, in the past, that many of the peers I tutored not only obtained/recollected more information, but were more comfortable in a quiet, relaxed environment. Since I do not believe that proving one's self by test scores is the same as being educated, my classroom is a place of fun, laughter and enjoyment of the role story telling must play in our lives. My students read and share their book choices with others. I promote understanding the author and his motives as a lens for comprehension. In order to fully comprehend a written work, a person must spend time as a writer. English and education have been a passion of mine for my entire life. My undergraduate experience at the University of Minnesota Morris exacerbated this characteristic. While at U of M Morris I lead several study groups as well as copy-edited for the University newspaper. Grammar, nonfiction writing as well as critical analysis of literature are my strongest talents.
