Teaching Math in English and Russian.

I am a professional teacher. I have 15 years of experience teaching. I have taught Math and Computer Science in college. Also I have taught in both public and private school systems. I have experience private tutoring for students in school, college and also university. I do understand that all students learn at different degrees but they all can learn better. So I am always teaching my students with considering their individual characteristics. I enjoy teaching because I very often hear from my students that they really start to understand Math or Computer Science better only when I take them to learn. Working one-on-one with a student is a great opportunity to really focus on the individual characteristics and academic needs of the student and helping them to be more successful in learning.

A Little Bit About Me...

My experience, (both academic and work)has been widely varied, ranging from research and engineering to financial management in a corporate environment, followed by golf course design and landscape management. In addition I used my experience in construction and woodworking to build and market patio furniture. Unfortunately the housing depression of the mid 2000's caused the business to be non profitable and was closed. Since 2005 I have been semi retired and used my construction experience to work at a lumber and hardware store.
One on one or group. Lessons taught, homework assigned, then follow up of homework assignment.

Math can be fun and interesting if you have the right tools!

I enjoy using a variety of techniques with my students. We play games, use various software programs, and other helpful one on one devices to assist students in understanding and remembering concepts.
I have served as a guidance counselor in middle schools for almost forty years and retired in December, 2013. During the last twelve years, I have tutored students in math in groups and individually. I enjoy using incentives and finding ways to make concepts relative in the student's actual life experiences. I still hold a valid Florida certificate.

A Little Bit About Me...

My old next door neighbors have two children. One is a boy in elementary and one is a girl in middle school. I tutored the boy in reading and writing. He was able to read his first book on his own after a few weeks with me. I had to tutor the girl in math. she was taking algebra and was having a tough time with it. In two weeks of many meetings, she was able to pass her final exam. No matter what grade I was in, I always enjoyed going down to the ESE room and helping the special kids. I did what ever I could to help.

Let's get you an A!

I find it partucularly useful to take time to get to know the student's interests so that I can relate each subject to things that the student is familiar with. Making this connection between a difficult concept and the student's personal areas of interest helps the student feel comfortable with the subject and therefore more confident thinking through each question presented. Once confidence is established, it becomes easier for students to develop an understanding of the subject area that can be applied without the tutor present.
I began tutoring math, composition, and biology in college for 3 years and loved it! I graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Biology with and minor in math. After college I continued tutoring middle school and high school students in math and biology in both a one-on-one and small group setting. I have been tutoring now for over 4 years and genuinely enj ... read more

My major complaint with the current pedagogy of STEM fields is there focus on teaching students to be able to produce answers so a slew of canned and frankly uninteresting problem sets. There is so much interesting literature, philosophy, and history in the fields of science and physics that it makes very little sense to muddle with these less helpful and dull techniques and problems. Physics and math education has become so perforated with cliche that shows like Cosmos and the elegant universe can become hits by just regurgitating the same buzz-theories (Schrodinger's cat, Black holes, the multiverse etc.) in the same, cloddish language (space-time is 'warped' and twisted, quantum 'weirdness', etc). This lack of original language and analogy is not a semantical issue; it's suggestive of the philistine cleaving of the sciences from the arts and it's very disturbing -- these truly awesome ... read more

Skilled in relating, in teaching, and in subject knowledge.

To teach, one needs three skills: the ability to relate to a student, the skills necessary to convey leaning, and subject knowledge. I'm proficient in these skills. I have a degree in chemistry with a minor in math. Taught all the maths in night school to students seeking associate degrees. And most importantly, I use math all the time in my business as a wealth manager having designed screens and a rating system all supported by algebra.

I hope to tutor teenagers that i can teach and learn from

I can be strict but I do show empathy and try to put myself in other's situation. I don't judge I believe every child learns in thier own way but with time and patience it can be done. I do push sometimes to see results but in the end the happy ending is worth it. I guarentee to show them a few strategies that are unique and will stick to them forever. I do require parents to cooperate when possible. thank you
I am currently enrolled in Desoto High School in arcadia florida. I love math and still have time for my CNA training. I am a senior this year. I am currently in a class where i tutor ninth and tenth graders in any subject but i prefer math. Call me a math wizard if you would. I hope to become a part time math tutor someday and a certified nursing assistant and more through life.

All through high school and college I was a tutor. I have taken numerous writing extensive courses. This qualifies me to tutor English. I have also taken many courses that concentrated on Social Studies. Science was always one of my favorite courses in high school, therefore I took a few science courses in college as well. I have previously tutored students in test preparation, and I have taken the FCAT myself. Math was another strong subject of mine, and I have also tutored students in this area as well.
I feel that I am a natural educator. I often find my self teaching people simple tasks at work, or being called upon by friends and family members to assist them, or their children with their homework. More About This Tutor...

As a broadcast communication student, I worked at an aftercare/tutoring center while in college. After four years, I found that I love working with kids and helping them better understand a subject in which they first had difficulty understanding. I love to be able to make someone stronger and excel in the long run. I have tutured in math, English, writing, and many other susjects. Anything reading related that involves writing is my strongest subject.
My goal is help a child discover their own academic excellence. I feel better knowing that I helped a child bring their grade average from a C to a B, or anything higher than they were earning when I first started tutoring them. I enjoy tutoring students very much.

I love teaching all ages, nearly all subjects. I understand that everyone has different styles of learning. When teaching to a group, ideally all styles would be touched on (auditory, visual, hands-on). When working one-on-one, though, it is possible to teach towards that individual's particular style of learning. This works so much better than a one-size-fits-all method of teaching. If one way of teaching isn't working, I search for a different approach, until I find one that works. I try to explain concepts using ideas and terms that the student is familiar with. This allows the student to relate new concepts to already familiar ones, which helps it 'stick' better. I love 'aha' or 'lightbulb' moments - it makes it all worthwhile!
