Amy H. - Fort Wayne, IN 46807 (18.2 mi) - Spelling Tutor - $40.00/hr.
My teaching style is hands-on. Students learn best by doing, so after a mini-lesson, I encourage them to try it out for themselves. I am a former teacher of English, acting, SAT Prep, and Public Speaking. All this experience gives me unique perspective. I am adventurous and like to help students enjoy learning. I have taught 7th grade - adults in subjects ranging from acting, English/language arts, and Japanese adults how to speak and write better English.

I have taugth spelling all the years I have tuaght as well. This is another subject that I think has gone through some changes over the years in my own thinking. Spelling, what they call encoding, naturally follows decoding. You have to be able to read a word before you can spell it. And for many of our sight words, you really have to have seen it a long time or just commit its abnormal spelling to memory. I do not use a spelling book per se, because I think spelling development is individual as reading. So, I teach a phonetic sound, and then develop a list of words with that particular phonetic sound in them. We practice sentences, abc order, definitions (for the older children), sorting by phonetic rules, and writing the word in triangles. I include sight words and words that that particular child is struggling on in his daily writing journal. My teaching style is very hands-

Karen A. - Fort Wayne, IN 46805 (21.8 mi) - Spelling Tutor - $20.00/hr.
Learn the love of words and tricks to remembering how they are spelled. I have taught middle school language arts for 15 years in both public and private schools. I excel in teaching young people how to write clearly, completely, and concisely. While I can teach them grammar, punctuation, spelling, organization, and research skills. CONTENT often comes from the heart rather than the head. I have had several of my students win awards in writing completions. One struggling 8th grader worked so hard that he was accepted into an Honors English Class his freshman year in high school. I believe that grammar and punctuation are critical in written expression. I am very focused on the learning style of the student and will begin with most student making that determination and connection with the student. I also work well with students who are dyslexic, have ADD/ADHD, and who are left-handed.

Jabrael A. - Muncie, IN 47303 (29.2 mi) - Spelling Tutor - $17.50/hr.
In 2011 to 2012 I worked as a lead tutor for Academic Achievers in Muncie. My core focus was to improve writing skills. I would help students organize their thoughts into a structured document, and on occasion I would help build their vocabulary with five words of the week. Currently, I work at the Muncie Children's Museum where I create programs for children to exercise their motor and critical thinking skills in the visual arts and music. I teach according to the student's learning style. I acknowledge that all students learn differently, and I excel at catering to visual, aural, and kinesthetic needs of students.

Alan T - Bluffton, IN 46714 (1.6 mi) - Spelling Tutor - $37.00/hr.
During college, I changed my major several times, taking numerous classes for each one to determine what I wanted to do with my life. I experimented with Political Science for two years, in which I took classes in criminology, speech, and history. My next year of college was spent in English and Writing, where I focused on the obvious, as well as classes in psychology. The last few years of my college experience, where I ended up graduating with a Bachelor’s in Finance, were based around all of the science and math classes that Ohio Dominican University had to offer. I have also worked in multiple management positions where I was responsible for interviewing and training countless employees. My teaching style is one of friendly leadership. Working through problems or lessons with the student by leading them through it, then working it with them side by side while explaining the deta

Linda H - Decatur, IN 46733 (12.6 mi) - Spelling Tutor - $35.00/hr.
I believe that all children are unique and gifted in some way. I truly prefer to work with them one-on-one. Each child learns in a manner that is a challege to meet and I welcome this challenge and often find that I learn as much from them as they might from me. Children love to learn and I love to provide that opportunity in as many varied and intersting ways as I can. I have taught 4 and 5th grade in the Texas School Systems for 24 years. I worked as a retired teacher in the Adams Wells Special Services Coop for 3 years (2006-2009)as a teacher's aide with special needs students both in the elementary and high school levels. Those children varied from autistic, cerebal palsy, Attention Deficit Disorders with and without Hyperactivity. I really enjoyed working with these students to help them with their reading, math, and overall achievement. I am currently employed as a substitute te

Diana C - Huntington, IN 46750 (12.8 mi) - Spelling Tutor - $36.00/hr.
I have been teaching children since 1990, when I worked as a Naturalist for the Indiana Department of Natural Resources. I did this kind of education for 3 years. I then created my own educational company and presented workshops on natural resource topics for children and adults from 1997-2002.
More recently, from 2006-09, I worked both as a substitute school teacher and a contract tutor. I am presently presenting weekly tree programs at my local Boys and Girls Club. I am an advocate of hands-on teaching whenever possible. Praise works wonders in getting results from reluctant learners. I am patient and empowering as a tutor, and attempt to discover the best methods for each individual student's best learning possibilities.

Donna S - Huntington, IN 46750 (18.2 mi) - Spelling Tutor - $54.00/hr.
I began homeschooling my children in 1993. My older son was in 8th grade, my younger son was in 4th grade, my oldest daughter was in Kindergarten, and my twin daughters were 2 years old. My older son graduated with 2 bachelor degrees after spending a year in France as an English teacher in a high school. My younger son graduated with a double degree and a minor. Both are currently in grad school. My oldest daughter will be returning to school next year after a 2-year leave. My twin daughters will begin college in the fall. Homeschooling has enabled me to keep abreast of current learning as well. I have tutored 3 students in the last year, all three in algebra and the one student in geometry, too. Children are our heritage. Children have an innate desire to learn and I believe that with proper guidance, each child can be successful. I endeavor to determine what the child is interested in

I worked as in house counsel for seven and a half years in Fidelity National Financial’s Chicago claims department, handling title insurance claims generated by property in multiple states of the country. For the last four of those years, I was in a supervisory position with respect to the other members of my “team.” My primary job responsibilities have included coverage determination of title insurance claims and management of outside counsel. I reviewed policies and applicable law and provided guidance to other claims administrators in the department as to their handling of claims. In addition, my time with FNF allowed me to greatly improve upon and polish my skills in communication, negotiation, teaching, and management. I attempt to meet each student at his or her own level, and seek to engage students through humor as well as through direct instruction. My teaching style varies
