I am definitely a believer in full-immersion for the students that i tutor. I also balance that with being completely comprehensive - I want them to understand their teachers, who may or may not be Deaf themselves. My goal is to be a mediator for the students i work with, and make the experience less stressful and more importantly, FUN!

Sign Language is one of my top subjects! My mom and my step father are both deaf and my real father was hearing. So growing up I learned sign language along side with learning english. I have almost always interperted for my mother and step father in many situations.

In American Sign Language I was raised learning English along with American Sign Language so I could speak to both of my parents. As my dad is hearing and my mother has been deaf since birth. Once my parents divorced I moved to Texas with my mother and step-dad, who is deaf as well. Being in an all deaf house American Sign Language was my only way of communcation with my parents. I am extremely fluent in Sign Language. I would also interpert for my parents if needed in multiple places and multiple situations. I am not certified but I have been around sign language longer than many interperturs have. As for typing skills, I have always been a proficent and fast typer all throught school. I always finished my keyboarding exercises first and know how to work any Microsoft program, such as Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. I also type without looking at the keyboard. A Little Bit About Me...

Through out my work with children diagnosed with autism I have learned and implemented B.F. Skinner's Operent Conditioning model. Although punishment is in the model, my specific teaching style only includes reinforcement using encouragement and praise to help your child reach his/her optimal potential. Working with children diagnosed with autism, I have learned patience and the ability to adapt each session as the student goes through their individual learning process. My work has prepared me for all possible challenges with a range of students who fall along the continuum of learning abilities.
My college studies have been in a variety of fields with the most concentration in the arts and social sciences. At the University Center for Developmental Disabilities I have gained one-on-one experience with children with autism and have learned and employed several techniques used i ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I enjoy seeing children discover the world around them in their own ways. Therefore, I teach the importance of working things out until you understand it for yourself. Children will meet and often surpass any goal that is given to them if you show that you believe in them. I use a hands-on approach, as much as possible, with a problem-solving emphasis. I firmly believe that a child remembers things more if he is able to work it out for himself. As a result, I take more of a mentoring position the older the child is. It was in this way that my daughter received both an AA and an AS degree the night she received her high school diploma.
I began teaching at Hesperia Christian in 1995. First, I substituted and then taught part-time, two to four subjects a year: Advanced Math and Drama, 5 years; Biology, 1 year; and Advanced Drama, 3 years. When my son started seventh grade, I b ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

Over the past 4 years, I've worked at the Colton Community services recreatioon depatrment. As an employee I've worked in Drop-In Recreation, in which I provide my assistance in helping the children do homework and tutor them as they needed. fot the past year and a half, we've started a new program called Homework help, which is to focus more on helping the students one on one with homwwork, reading, math, projects, etc. I am currently working on getting my AA in Child Devolpment to continue my drive to become a teacher. Ive already taken a child devopment class, and I also hold a few certificates: Food handlers certificate, first aid, and cpr.
I am a very one on one type of person. I want to make sure the child understands on their level of thinking, which might mean using what they use on a daily basis to explain clearer. Depending on the age of the child and what subject that n ... read more

I have tutored high school students at San Gorgonio High School in a variety of subjects for 6 months. In addition, I worked as an independent English tutor in Buenos Aires, Argentina for 6 months. When I was in high school I did two years of tutoring at Franklin Elementary. I'm currently employed at Club Z Tutoring and attend University of Redlands to obtain my teaching credential.

If there is a good relationship between the student and teacher then it is easier to teach and learn. I use different styles of teaching that address all types of learners. I will incorporate visual aids, music, hand movements and other techniques to enhance the students retention of information. I believe that an open dialogue is a teacher's most needed resource. Any child needs to feel as though he or she can express concerns or apprehensions without the fear of feeling embarrassed or stupid. I truly believe that there is no such thing as a stupid question. Teaching should, of course, relay necessary information, but it should also foster a student's drive to succeed, as well as the knowledge that any goal can be reached through perserverance. I enjoy helping students of all ages, and I look forward to what my students will inevitably teach me.
I am a California State University, Los Angeles graduate, holding a BA in English, with a specific focus on clasroom teaching. Upon graduation at CalBaptist University, I was honored to receive the “Outstanding Degree Completion Student Award, 2010.” I was chosen for this award for my high academic achievement and leadership, but I attribute earning this honor to my love of learning and teaching.
