A Little Bit About Me...

Working in education since 2006 with ages 6 weeks to 18 years. I have student teaching experience from kindergarten thru 12th grade. I have substitute taught for kindergarten thru 12th grade as well. I have been enlisted in the Illinois Army National Guard since June 2012, and am currently enrolled in the Officer Candidate Program. I have been tutoring kindergarden level through sylvan learning center since the fall semester of 2013.

I love teaching. I earned my BA before I was old enough to vote. While my classmates were in his/her senior year, I was teaching. Eventually I earned my M.Ed. in Reading, then started School Administration and Adult Education. In all these fields I find similar necessary skills: patience, co-operation among staff and colleagues, knowledge of subject matter, communication with the community and parents and a well defined curriculum. Moreover, I am a published author and a former writer with St. Louis Globe Democrat - Suburban Journals. As a favor to my students, I often evaluate papers for submission. I have always enjoyed creating art. In high school I took all the art classes I could. I went on to study art in college. I learned studio art as well as classroom management. After college I taught art for two years at Mount Vernon high school in Illinois. I taught basic art classes as well as junior and senior design classes. I have also taught art for three years at the Christian Activity Center in East St. Louis Illinois. I developed and taught the art program for the elementary students.

I have worked with children from preschool-12th grade both professionally and personally. I get along well with children, and try to hone in on a child's personality and how they learn best. (Visual, Learning by doing, Verbal) I also try to see what issues the child is having problems with - that could be not understanding what is required, or not having mastered certain skills that are necesary to build on to obtain the next level of achievement.
