A Little Bit About Me...

As a Business Administration major, I have had extensive schooling in all realms of business, accounting, and finance. In my earlier years, I had extensive exposure to math of all levels, as well. Additionally, I am very strong in English, even having edited a book and written the foreword for it. During my early college years I was employed in the Tutoring Lab and volunteered at the YMCA; more recently I have tutored individuals on an as-needed basis.

I come from a teaching family, and continue to learn from teachers myself. I feel that because I am still eager to continue to learn new things, I can appreciate a good teacher. I began working as a Water Safety Instructor when I was 16 and taught swimming to people age 3 to age 76. I worked as a Teacher's Assistant at West Virginia university and taught my own section of a one credit course required of all freshmen students while working on a BA in English with a concentration in Creative Writing. While working on my MA in English Literature with a Certificate in Folklore at George Mason university, I worked as a substitute teacher and then was hired as a full time middle school English teacher. As a tutor at Eastern University I came to the realization that not all students learned in the same way. I have a different teaching style as compared to the teachers putting things into real life examples, or even making things hands on so my students understand better. The students knew that I wanted them to succeed and would stop whatever I was doing to help them do homework, study, etc. I can relate to the students while still respecting them and encouraging them to shine to their highest potential
