I am a Certified Public Accountant with over 30 years of accounting and finance experience. Although I have no formal teaching degree, I feel that I would be an excellent tutor. First, I have successfully trained many employees over the years. Second, my two sons, ages 21 and 19 graduated numbers 2 and 1 in their high school classes, respectively. Now, both are "straight A" students at the University of Tennessee. Here, I feel that I have lead by example. I teach both face-to-face and online courses. In my face-to-face courses I usually start with a class discussion on the previous topic. I do this with a series of loaded questions meant to grab the students attention where I then work my way into the next lecture. I like to employ a variety of techniques such as power point and documentaries for student to get a better image of the historical subject at hand. I usually give three paper topics throughout the semester along with four tests. I focus intensely on making students better readers and writers. I have found history is a good means of achieving these goals when a students is given a subject he or she is interested in. I have held a strong passion for history since I was an undergrad at Radford University. Motivational, easy going, encouraging , never critical. I love working with children and I enjoy seeing their light bulb come on.
