Eric D - Hicksville, OH 43526 (15.6 mi) - Government Tutor - $36.50/hr.
In 1992 I graduated from Bowling Green State University (BGSU) with a degree in music education, vocal and trumpet emphasis. Since then, I have been employed by Defiance Area Youth for Christ, and it has been my privilege to assist young people to acheieve their fullest potential in every aspect of their lives. During my employment with YFC, I have been allowed to substitute teach in schools throughout Defiance County and have done so over the last ten years. Through my years spent as a sub, along with a very good college experience covering a vast array of subjects, I am competent to assist young people in areas of English, Math, History, Social Studies, certain fields of Science, Creative Arts, and in any aspect of Music. Young people learn through different ways and means. I try to discern the best method to instruct any particular student with whom I am tutoring at the time. I

I have always believed everyone can learn and everyone has different learning styles. Finding what works for the student is often the key to life-long success. I have a great connection with students and am always a believer they can be successful. Patience, motivation and desire are essential to success. I have experience in every level of student. My first degree (A.S.) was in Engineering and I worked at higher level math, including a college Teacher's Assistant in Calculus. I went on to obtain a B.S. in Education. I took the coursework for Middle and High School endorsements in 4 other subject areas. I work in Remedial Education at a local university currently.

David B - New Haven, IN 46774 (30.8 mi) - Government Tutor - $36.50/hr.
I was a tutor while in college. I tutored students in History, Accounting, and Greek. I was a double major:Accounting and Christian Ministry.
I was a substitute teacher in Indiana from 1990-1994. I taught everything from Kindergarden to High School. I was a couple of teacher's personal sub. I also was involved with the program that dealt with students with developmental disabilites.
Currently, I am homeschooling my daughter. She is very gifted, so we are letting her interests lead us. She is the hardest one I have ever taught, but that is because I am so close to her. My teaching style is based on the student. One teaching style does not fit everyone. I have to see how the student learns and then adapt my teaching style to meet his or her needs. I love helping people, and especially when they get it. That is so rewarding.

Lauren C - Fort Wayne, IN 46802 (32.8 mi) - Government Tutor - $36.00/hr.
As a journalist, I value communication skills. I have 4 years of professional experience in the fields of marketing, public relations and communications. I love sharing my love of the English language with others. Last school year I tutored a kindergartener in reading and vocabulary. I enjoy working with children because they are more open to learning. To me, there is nothing more fulfilling than when a child grasps concepts he or he previously struggled with. I believe everyone has the ability to learn. It's a matter of adapting to the child's strengths, weaknesses and learning styles. I am very flexible and like to "think outside of the box."

I would say that it is a little more toward laid back. Being over 6" tall, stocky, pushing hard, being an ogre, hard-nosed, that isn't going to work for me. People have a tendency to be a bit intimidated and fearful because of my size. I will use it to my advantage if it is necessary, or becomes necessary, but I've found being a little more quiet, reserved and coaxing the student to initiate the discussion is a little better. Ask leading questions, adjust and proceed, based on their response. I have received degrees in Int'l Business from Lourdes College, as well an Associates Degree in Accounting from Owens Community College. While with the Ohio Air National Guard, participated in the Mentoring program with Township Elementary, Swanton Local Schools for five(5)-years. I enjoyed working with the students, helping those that needed a little extra attention. I enjoy reading, writing, learn

Gerald J - Gilboa, OH 45875 (49.2 mi) - Government Tutor - $37.50/hr.
I am a very energetic and interactive teacher, moving around the classroom, challenging students with questions, providing many examples and anecdotes to illustrate teaching points. I always try to teach inductively--leading the student to discover the answer on their own, and I encourage them to express their own original thoughts. I use a multisensory approach to teaching, using audio-visual resources and the internet whenever possible. I really enjoy leading students to see things from "out of the box" perspectives, to find relationships between seemingly unrelated things, and to synthesize novel insights by doing so. The most important tenet of my teaching style is respect for the individuality and potential of each student. I taught 3 years in college--Freshman English, Grammar Basics, Composition, Speech, Literature, Business Communications. Taught over 15 years (English, Pre-Alge
