My comments on tutoring Basic Learning Skills : I am NYS certified in Literacy (grades 5-12) and English (grades 7-12), although I have several years of experience with children as young as Kindergarten.
As an educator, I view myself not as a provider of knowledge, but rather as a facilitator. I aim to encourage the critical thinking that will serve students not only in the classroom, but throughout their lives. In my experience, I have become well-versed in student-centered curriculum development programs, including Understanding by Design, which I have employed extensively in my own lesson planning with gratifying results. I have also been trained in, and have been implementing, the new Common Core Standards for over a year.
My student teaching and observations in New York City public schools as well as my current tenured position in an inner city school district have provided me with valuable exposure to diverse classroom atmospheres and have allowed me to develop effective classroom management strategies.
