I worked for Kankakee Community College for one year as a Math and Spanish tutor in 2006 and 2007. During this year, I honed the mathematics I learned through high school as well as the four years of Spanish I had taken to that point. After a year, my classes conflicted with my tutoring schedule but I still wanted to help fellow students so I started independently tutoring. After a year of doing so, I went on hiatus to focus on my final two semesters which centered around extensive lab work as well as research writing.
I believe in taking a casual approach in tutoring. From previous experience, I have found that many times students understand the material but tend to get flustered in a classroom environment. My teaching experience comes mostly as a teaching assistant during college. Most of this work was in the laboratory portion of general biology classes, with occasional hours of lecture. My duties included preparing materials and answering student questions. Later I was in charge of a laboratory section, which meant that I prepared test materials and was the sole instructor in the class. Then, I was a laboratory instructor in anatomy at a veterinary college, assisting with the instruction of veterinary students.
