A Little Bit About Me...

I have sons ages 17 and 20, and continually took an active role in fostering their education. From the time they first set foot in kindergarten, through high school, I regularly volunteered, supporting their and the schools’ needs. I assisted in the classroom, chaperoned field trips, dances, etc., planned and participated at parties, special events and any role that could make a small difference. I am especially sensitive to the needs of students with disabilities, particularly those with ADD or similar issues. The opportunity to teach is really the opportunity to work with kids to make them stronger academically. I enjoy stretching a students learning abilities to levels that they are not aware they have. I like to laugh, have fun, and create a comfortable environment for individuals to learn. It is important to have that type of space so as to ensure that students do not form a sense of anxiety when entering the room or when studying that particular subject. I love creating a variety of activities: group, individual, hands-on, problem solving, comprehension and reading, and activities where students have to get up and move around. A Little Bit About Me...

In my Masters in Teaching program we are learning about differentiation and working to find the best vehicle by which to present information to students. For example, if a student has a talent and passion for music, perhaps setting some of their social studies and science materials to song will help them better absorb the information. Also, the best way to create connections in students minds is to have them learn and then create something representing their learning. Perhaps they learn about an era of history and then they act out a scene that may have happened, or they visually represent a science concept.
