My comments on tutoring Finance : I have tutored undergraduate and graduate students in Finance and economics. I have taken all undergarduate and graduate courses in economics at Ohio University I taught economics at National College

Punctual - prepared and professional. I look at learning rep. styles of students (pictorial, word or kinesthehic). I try to make the learning experience as painless as possible (especially math). I start with pre-tests to gauge where a student is at, then follow-up with teaching content and finish with a post-test to gauge learing objectives that have been met. Depending on the subject, I like to schedule 2-2.5 hrs ateach session. I also like to work out problems for students and e-mail them the results, where applicable.

I believe that comparing complex concepts to everyday, personal objects and situations is the most effective way to learn. Therefore, I am big on metaphors. Algebraic concepts and formulas can often be, I have found, analogous to much simpler ideas or images. Once the abstract is related to the mundane, we can break down the barrier to understanding that can be an automatic or habitual construction for many people. I am also an advocate of learning by example; I will walk through a problem or two, step by step, until the process becomes obvious. My approach to "teaching" is very personal; education is not a "one size fits all" project but comes from many sources--books, talking, hands on experience and much more. If someone wants to learn, I believe they can and dance with them when they find their "Eureka" moments. I believe in praising all efforts while gently correcting errors.
