My experience as a newspaper editor helped me to develop a collaborative teaching style. A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching style is very holistic. I want to empower students to discover and employ their voices. I want to develop critical thinking skills, analysis, synthesis, and retention, basically, I want to help people *THINK* about what they are saying, what they are doing, to interpret the world around them. English and Writing CAN be Fun!

The collaborative learning approach, where students are encouraged to discuss what and how they're learning, is most effective. Students tend to engage much better with course material when the instructor has discussions with them, as opposed to lecturing at them.
Since being awarded a master's degree in 2008, I've taught English composition, literature, and reading comprehension courses at Wayne State University, Henry Ford Community College, Oakland Community College, and Jackson Community College. My comments on tutoring Shakespeare : I have been a state-certified teacher of English and French for 18 years.

My teaching style...? I do not have only one; part of the point of tutoring is the ability to truly tailor styles/strategies to individuals or small groups. I must say that I am the funniest person I know, and I crack myself up all the time. Humor is always one of my favorite/best strategies.

A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching style is very interactive. I like to begin a tutoring session by helping the student set a goal for the session. We then begin work on the material. During the session I encourage the student's learning by asking open-ended questions to encourage critical thinking. With writing assignments, the pen is always in the student's hand and, with guidance, the student makes choices about his or her writing. I use a method I call guided discovery, which encourages students to think in depth about their subject, discovering new methods and information with guidance from me.
