A Little Bit About Me...

While my experiences have encompassed many disciplines and languages, among them German and Russian, my education from Columbia University has provided me a strong background in the liberal arts and humanities. I have strong analytical, compositional and grammatical skills as a result of writing papers, participating in peer edits, and teaching grammar in an English as a Second Language program. In the past seven years, I have tutored basic GED subjects, taught English in both New York City and Yaroslavl, Russia, and excelled in my degree program, gaining a great deal of knowledge in many different subjects.

A Little Bit About Me...

Children learn in different way, and have different levels of enthusiasm for different subjects. I think that the way to encourage a child's success is to identify the ways in which the students learns best, and to understand what subjects/topics interest them. If you can relate to a child, your ability to motivate them and encourage them is amplified. I like to challenge students and to encourage them to think on their own. I believe positive reinforcement is important to children whose self-esteem might be low due to perceived lack of academic ability.
Through my studies in Environmental issues and Landscape design, I have taken many writing-intensive classes, science courses and geography courses. My passion is the arts. I have explored a variety of areas including fibers, painting, drawing, 3-D, mixed media, collage, clay, graphic design, etc. Skills from all academic areas are used in the arts from math to history. An arts educaiton has been proven to increase learning in these areas and raise test scores. I was a K-8 art public education teacher for three years. For the past three years, I have worked with special needs children in a private school. Other areas of interest include psychology, English, and history.
