Very patient, friendly, and effective

I find I learn the most when I can relate a subject or theme to something current or more familiar to me. Finding something a student is interested in and trying to break down a complicated matter into simple, easy to remember parts when possible that they can relate to in an easy manner. I find this very effective with students who may have ADHD or just some trouble focusing on occasion.
I have seven years of upper level education experience with a wide variety of subjects. Four of those years I was involved in teaching and tutoring other college students. I also have worked with younger students, mostly with biology, history and research writing. I have done research in various fields of biology, specifically aquatic biology.

A Little Bit About Me...

I graduated from West Virginia University with a bachelor of science in biology and a minor in communications. Throughout school, I helped many students with a variety of courses I had already taken. I have always worked very well with others and my communication minor only enhances this aspect. I am currently pursuing my masters in health care administration and human resource management. Since I am still furthering my education I think it will help me relate even more to students and their studies.
I truly love helping others especially when it comes to learning. Some students need that extra attention that they are not receiving in the classroom and I would love to be able to help them in anyway I can. My teaching style varies depending on the students I am teaching. It consists of lecture notes, handouts, exams and quizes and games such as Jeopardy. I believe that all students have the ability to learn and grow as individuals. It is my job as the teacher to make learning both enjoyable and educational. My main goal in education is to make a difference in the lives of the students I teach.
I have been involved with education for roughly the past five years, spending 2 as a substitute teacher, 2.5 as a Middle and High School Social Studies teacher and 0.5 as an Adult Education Instructor. I hold a Master's Degree in Social Studies Education from Morehead State University and a Bachelor's Degree in History from Alice Lloyd College. Classes I have taught include United State History, World History, World Geography and Law & Justice.
