Bringing fun and learning together to achieve success!

Hands on learning, use of technology, books, group learning, creative role play of different ways to solve problems.
Many years of experience teaching, working, and tutoring children of all ages. Every child learns in a different way. I want to be able to find the best way and help children have fun while learning. It is important to establish what learning method works best for a child before teaching can take place. I am not a teacher; I am an awakener!

Very skilled in teaching a variety of learning styles across the different areas of the multiple levels of intelligences.
I have taught in the education field since 1999. I am very fortunate to have had the privilege of working with a multitude of learners in a variety of environments. Early in my career I worked with adults that were mentally and physically challenged. I found this very rewarding and decided to pursue a degree in education, which lead me on my journey into the world of Special Education. I began working with children and young adolescents who had a variety of special needs and learning styles; I went on to specialized Autism and Special Education for K-12. After working with young children for many years I decided to branch out to work with young adolescents and adults pursuing their high school equivalency. Tutor for Regular Elementary and Special Education

I have recently retired after 30+ years as an elementary special and regular education teacher. For the past 15 years I have also worked as a tutor for the city of White Plains. I have done extensive private tutoring for the past 20 years. For 17 years I worked as an elementary special education classroom teacher at New York Hospital in an out-patient day treatment program. This program involved elementary school age children who displayed severe emotional and academic difficulties and were unable to function in a regular school setting.

Believe in yourself, and you are half-way there!

My teaching style depends on the student. I am comfortable with trying different study methods in order to figure out why my student is having trouble with a particular subject.
I have a Bachelor of Science in Biology and a minor in Chemistry. I love being able to help students feel comfortable with the material they are studying. I have tutored numerous times throughout college, and would like to get back into tutoring students because I find it to be rewarding. As a student who went from living in Germany and being taught that there are many ways of getting the right answer, to moving to America where everything is taught in one way, I have learned to incorporate my tutoring skills to the need of each individual student. I try to figure out what works best for every individual and help them focus on their strength and improve their weaknesses.

2008 Graduate in English from Boston College. My experiences with capable and engaged teachers help me hone my written and verbal skills, the reason I chose to major in English. Throughout high school, I was proficient in not only these skills, but also Mathematics and History, which led me to sample many related classes in college. I have past tutoring experience in Math and English, and my SAT scores were 710 in each of these disciplines. I also spent a lot of time mentoring children in a Learn to Skate program at Bear Mountain.
Understanding the learning habits of an individual is the key to relating to the student and making positive changes in those habits. I'm patient and empathetic, which helps me find methods to tailoring strategies unique to the student. Attempting to conform an individual to one predescribed style is the reason they're left behind in the first place. Ther ... read more

I love children for their unabashed honesty. I treat them with respect and do my utmost to listen deeply to their needs. I'm a very patient, detail-oriented person and frequently use humor to create an environment that the child finds is fun in which to learn and one where both mentor and child have mutual respect. A willingness/openness to learn the challenging subjects is key on the child's part. It is a joy to help a child learn and watch them grow more confident in the process.
I have enjoyed the written word my entire life. I have written poetry, screenplays, short stories, advertising copy, grants, business plans, marketing plans, newsletters and press releases. My understanding of grammar and syntax is second nature to me. I have tutored children in English (reading and writing) for more than 15 years.

A Little Bit About Me...

I do not have a lot of experience in the teaching field but I am a natural born teacher. I have been a mentor to many people in my life; friends, co-workers, even family members would say the same. If given the opportunity I will be able to grow with and enjoy the success of all my students. We will indulge in the passion of education!

A Little Bit About Me...

I graduated from Fordham University with a B.A. in English and a 3.44 GPA in my major. I plan to continue my education and receive my Masters in English. I will receive New York State certification in Adolescent English (7-12) this summer and have several years of experience tutoring students from a range of age groups. I tutored an eight year old girl for two years and tutored a college senior for one year. I also student taught in the Bronx for grades 7 and 10 this past year.
I believe that each student can learn, but every student learns in a different way. It is the teacher's job, therefore, to ensure that his or her teaching style accommodates the student. For students who are more visual learners, I may provide visual aids along with the rest of my material. It is important to assess a student's learning profile before teaching takes place.
