A Little Bit About Me...

I truly enjoy teaching and working with all levels of math learners. I was blessed to have great math teachers in my education that transferred their passion for the subject on to me. Many students are very apprehensive when they enter math classes because the concepts seem so foreign. I feel the most important thing when it comes to math tutoring is being able to break down mathematical concepts in easy to understand terms so that students are not overwhelmed. After graduating with a degree in history as well as with completion of pre-medical requirements I started tutoring students grades k-12 as well as college students in math, science, english and reading. After college I completed 2 years of FAA flight training and began teaching ground and flight instruction for all levels of pilot training (including aerobatics), which has allowed me to hone my teaching skills working with so many different age groups, personalities and cultural backgrounds. As a flight instructor I teach aerodynamics and basic physics while using math on a regular basis.
I work well with children and adults alike. I am currently working as the Math Specialist at a K-8th school where I provide assistance to students who need extra help or are performing below grade level. I also work with students in 8th grade teaching Algebra to those who have the ability to learn at a faster pace than the class as a whole.
I first determine the student's level in each subject, and tutor accordingly. Since every person learns in a different way, I may try more than one approach until it is clear that the student is gaining an understanding of the subject matter. I am patient, positive, and encouraging. I find it very rewarding to help others. When I see the student learning and advancing, I share in their joy at overcoming a stumbling block, or accomplishing their goal.
