I am certified to teach secondary mathematics and social studies by the state of OHIO. I also enjoy teaching college students and tutoring on a weekly basis. While attaining my genetics degree at Ohio State, I worked at the OSU Chimpanzee Center. After graduating, I started working for the Department of Agriculture in the Weights and Measures division. It was my job to try to "trick" the scales before they could become available for commercial use. I moved back home to Coshocton when I got married. I quickly found a job teaching adults within our county's GED program. I easily became the math and science "guru" with my background and began getting my Masters in Education from Muskingum University. I believe in using a multi- modality approach to teaching. The more senses involved, the more likely one will remember. I also believe in trying to make material needed to learn to seem approachable or pertinent in their lives.(No matter the age) Anyone can learn if it is presented in a way that makes it exciting and fun. You must let them give a sense of accomplishment and success.
I graduated from college with certification to teach grades 1-12. Do to the job market at that time, I was unable to get a full time teaching job. I substituted and then tutored for 2 years. I then worked various jobs working with the public. Although much of work experience is not in the teaching field, I have worked with people in many ways to reach their full potential and can relate to them on a level that they will comprehend.

A Little Bit About Me...

During my time at Hocking Technical College, I was taking alot of biology related classes such as Botany, Ohio Trees, Aquatic Ecology and many other related classes. I was a tutor for 1 year, teaching students about learining there trees by showing them out in the field and also teaching them latin names for these specific trees. In addition, I tutored students in Aquatic Ecology and used mnemonic devices to aid in memorization of these concepts. While at Appalachian State Universtiy, I would often organize study groups and review concepts regarding geography skills in lab and also in the lecture. During my undergrad I was involved with this tutoring for one full year.
